Odoo Opens Remote Debugging for IoT Boxes and Adds Cashmatic as Its Third Automated Cash Machine

Odoo introduces remote access capabilities for IoT Boxes through Tailscale token integration, covering both online and offline scenarios, while simultaneously expanding POS hardware support with Cashmatic as the third automated cash machine alongside Glory and Cashdro.

Hardware problems in retail and warehouse environments have a particularly cruel quality: they happen on the floor, far from anyone who knows how to fix them. A receipt printer stops responding mid-shift. A barcode scanner drops its connection. An IoT Box that bridges all of these devices to Odoo goes dark entirely. Until now, diagnosing these issues meant either physically accessing the device or walking a non-technical store employee through command-line troubleshooting over the phone.

Two recent additions to Odoo’s hardware ecosystem address different sides of this problem. Remote debugging access for IoT Boxes lets support teams diagnose device issues without being on-site. And Cashmatic joins the roster of supported automated cash machines, bringing the total to three and giving POS operators more choice in how they handle physical cash.

IoT Box Remote Access: Two Paths for Two Scenarios

The new remote debugging capability covers the two situations where you actually need it. The first is straightforward: the IoT Box is online and reachable, but something connected to it isn’t working. A printer isn’t responding, a scale is sending garbage data, or a payment terminal has lost its configuration. In this scenario, the IoT Box homepage now includes a remote access option that generates a Tailscale token, giving an authorized support technician secure tunnel access to the box without exposing it to the open internet.

The second scenario is the harder one: the IoT Box itself is unresponsive. It’s not showing up in Odoo, its homepage isn’t loading, and the local network can’t reach it. For boxes running firmware version 26.01.2026 or later, Odoo has added a fallback mechanism that enables remote access even when the box appears completely offline. The support team can still reach the device through the Tailscale network, diagnose whether the problem is network-related, a failed update, or a hardware fault, and in many cases resolve it without dispatching anyone to the location.

The security model is worth noting. Tailscale tokens are time-limited and scoped to specific IoT Boxes. The remote session doesn’t grant blanket access to the store’s network or other connected devices. It’s a targeted diagnostic tunnel, not a VPN into the retail environment.

Why Remote Debugging Changes the Support Economics

For businesses running Odoo POS across multiple locations, the calculation is simple. A single on-site service call for a malfunctioning IoT Box can cost more than the hardware itself, and the downtime while waiting for a technician can cost even more in lost sales. Remote debugging eliminates the majority of these calls.

The offline recovery path is particularly valuable for franchise operations and distributed retail chains where the person at the store has no technical background. Instead of trying to talk a cashier through SSH commands, the support team connects directly and handles the diagnosis themselves. The employee on-site only needs to confirm physical connections — “is the box plugged in, is the Ethernet cable connected” — while everything diagnostic happens remotely.

Cashmatic Joins Glory and Cashdro in the POS Cash Machine Lineup

On the hardware expansion side, Cashmatic is now the third automated cash machine that Odoo’s Point of Sale officially supports, joining Glory and Cashdro. The integration follows the same pattern as the existing machines: the cash machine connects to an IoT Box, and the POS software communicates with it to automate cash counting, validation, and change dispensing.

The setup requires installing the pos_cashmaticmodule and configuring the machine’s IP address in the IoT settings. Cashmatic supports both HTTPS and HTTP connections, which matters for deployments where the IoT Box and cash machine sit on a local network without certificate infrastructure. The documentation walks through locating the machine’s IP address, configuring the connection protocol, and linking the device to a specific POS station.

Three Cash Machines, One Integration Pattern

The addition of Cashmatic is less about the specific hardware and more about Odoo’s approach to the automated cash handling market. By maintaining a consistent integration architecture across Glory, Cashdro, and Cashmatic, Odoo lets POS operators choose hardware based on regional availability, pricing, and form factor rather than software compatibility.

Glory machines dominate in markets where high-volume cash handling is the priority. Cashdro targets mid-range retail with a focus on compact footprint. Cashmatic rounds out the lineup with a third option that expands geographic availability, particularly in European markets where it has strong distribution.

All three follow the same operational flow: the POS creates a payment, the cash machine accepts bills and coins, validates denominations, calculates change, and dispenses the correct amount — all while the cashier focuses on the next customer. The back-office reconciliation happens automatically through the IoT Box connection.

The Hardware Ecosystem Play

These two updates share a common thread: Odoo is investing in the physical infrastructure layer that sits between its software and the real world. Remote debugging makes existing hardware deployments more manageable. A third cash machine option makes new deployments more accessible. Neither is a flashy feature — neither will headline a keynote or drive a surge of new subscriptions — but both address genuine operational friction that businesses face every day.

For the IT manager running Odoo POS across twenty retail locations, remote IoT debugging alone might justify the firmware update. For the retailer evaluating automated cash handling for the first time, having three hardware options instead of two makes the decision less about vendor lock-in and more about which machine fits the counter space.
