Odoo Adds Cashmatic as Its Third Automated Cash Machine — Giving Retailers a Real Choice at the Register

Odoo Point of Sale now integrates with Cashmatic cash machines alongside Glory and Cashdro, supporting both HTTPS and HTTP connectivity with configuration managed through the MyCashmatic app or directly on the hardware.

When Odoo first added Glory cash machine support to its Point of Sale, it solved a real problem: retailers could finally automate cash handling without bolting on third-party middleware. Then came Cashdro, a second vendor particularly popular in European and Latin American markets. Now the roster grows to three with the addition of Cashmatic, an Italian manufacturer whose machines are already installed in thousands of retail locations across Europe.

The integration follows the same pattern Odoo has established for hardware peripherals — install a module, configure a payment method, point it at the device on your local network, and the software handles the rest. But there are a few details about Cashmatic’s setup that make it worth understanding before you order the hardware.

What Cashmatic Machines Handle (and What They Don’t)

Like its counterparts, a Cashmatic machine automates the physical side of cash transactions. A customer inserts bills or coins, the machine validates and counts them, and it dispenses exact change. The cashier never touches currency. For refunds, the machine handles the payout the same way — no drawer to open, no bills to count, no room for error.

The boundary is clear: the integration covers payments and refunds. Operational tasks like filling the machine with starting cash or emptying it at close require the Cashmatic hardware interface or the MyCashmatic companion app, which runs on both Android and iOS. This isn’t an Odoo limitation — it’s how the hardware works, and the same is true for Glory and Cashdro machines.

Two Credentials, Two Purposes

One detail that trips people up during initial setup: Cashmatic ships with two separate sets of credentials. The first set is for the cash machine itself — these are the credentials you enter into Odoo to establish the connection. The second set is for the MyCashmatic administrative platform, which you use to configure the machine’s own settings, check its status, and manage operational tasks.

Mixing these up during setup will result in authentication failures that look like network problems. It’s a small thing, but knowing it upfront saves a call to your integration partner.

Finding the Machine’s IP Address

The Cashmatic machine needs to be on the same local network as the device running Odoo Point of Sale, and it needs a static IP. Dynamic addressing is a recipe for mid-shift disconnections when the DHCP lease expires and the machine grabs a different address.

Locating the current IP is straightforward. You can find it directly on the machine by navigating to Settings and then IP address after logging in with the hardware credentials. Alternatively, the MyCashmatic app or website shows it under Settings and then Network. Either way, write it down — you’ll need it for the Odoo configuration.

HTTPS or HTTP: Pick Your Complexity Level

Cashmatic supports two connection methods, and the choice is less about security than about operational simplicity. HTTPS requires generating a certificate through the Cashmatic web interface, then installing that certificate on every device that runs the POS. The installation process varies by operating system, which means you might need your integration partner involved.

HTTP, on the other hand, works through Odoo’s local network access feature. You enable “Trusted mode” on the machine itself or toggle “Unsecured APIs” in the MyCashmatic settings, and the connection works without certificate management. For a cash machine sitting on the same switch as your POS terminal behind your store’s firewall, the practical security difference is negligible. The official recommendation leans toward HTTP for exactly this reason — simpler setup, fewer moving parts, identical reliability.

Connecting It to Odoo

The software configuration is brief. Install the POS Cashmatic Cash Machines module, create a new payment method with the journal set to Cash, assign it to your POS location, and select Cash Machine (Cashmatic) as the integration type. The Cashmatic Settings tab asks for the machine’s IP address, username, and password. If you’re using HTTP, there’s a toggle for local network access. Save, and the machine is live.

The entire process — from unboxing to processing the first automated cash transaction — can realistically happen within an afternoon, assuming the network infrastructure is already in place.

Why Three Vendors Changes the Equation

A POS platform with one hardware vendor for a critical peripheral is a platform with a single point of failure. Two vendors is better but still leaves limited options. Three changes the dynamic meaningfully.

Glory is the established enterprise standard. Cashdro has strong presence in Southern Europe and Latin America. Cashmatic, based in Italy, brings its own dealer network and service infrastructure across Europe. For retailers evaluating which machine to deploy, the decision can now be based on local availability, pricing, and service support rather than which one Odoo happens to integrate with.

This also matters for multi-location retailers who operate across regions. A chain with stores in Germany and Spain might use Glory in one market and Cashmatic in another, with the same Odoo backend handling both. The payment method configuration is per-location, so different stores can use different machines without any workarounds.

The Disappearing Receipt Printer

In a smaller but related change, Odoo also quietly removed the Epson TM-U220 from its list of incompatible receipt printers in the POS documentation. The TM-U220, long flagged as incompatible due to its lack of ePOS software support, is no longer called out specifically. Whether this reflects a change in compatibility status or simply a documentation cleanup, the practical effect is that retailers no longer see it listed as a warning when setting up receipt printing.

What This Means for Retail Operations

Automated cash machines aren’t new technology. But having them plug directly into your ERP without middleware, without separate management software, and without manual reconciliation at the end of every shift — that’s the part that changes daily operations. Cash goes into the machine, the machine talks to Odoo, and Odoo writes the journal entry. The books balance automatically.

For retailers still processing significant cash volume, and there are far more of them than the “cashless future” headlines suggest, having a third hardware option means fewer compromises when building out the register. The right machine at the right price with local support, connected to the same system that handles inventory, purchasing, and accounting. That’s what an integrated retail stack actually looks like.
